The Salon Presents: Nick Klein, Can’t Be A Candle: Action One
SARA’S, New York presents Can’t Be A Candle: Action One, a performance by Nick Klein to accompany his solo presentation. Since 2008, Klein’s work has been rooted in the elementally creative acts of performing sound and sound adjacent gestures.
Over time, his interest in blending disciplines has allowed the edges of this practice to soften and encompass a wider range of performance contexts which he explores in staged settings of varying scale and intimacy: theaters, basements, museums, clubs.
For this performance, Klein will use a mechanic synthesizer to project site-specific found and original audio—a concert of sorts which he punctuates with intuitive gestures, boiling the idea of a performance and its associated expressions down to the essential actions that populate his practice like synthesized sound and the loaded language of postures. The result aims to be both illustrative and mystifying, yet referential and routine at its core.
